Saint Patrick’s Day in St Paul’s Bay… but which Irish Pub to choose?

If there is one thing that St Paul’s/Bugibba has a huge number of, it’s libraries.

Wait.  Did I say libraries?

I meant pubs.  In fact I haven’t seen a library since I’ve been here, but there is certainly no shortage of pubs – so plenty of options for a pint of the black stuff on St. Patrick’s Day.  Come with me on a brief tour:

Irish Bar St Paul's Bay

No messing about here.  It’s a bar, and it’s Irish.  No need to over-complicate things.

O'Reilly's Bar, Bugibba

O’Reilly’s is a popular spot with a good location near Bugibba main square to entice thirsty Irish tourists.  It’s also got a good pub-grub food menu and enormous cocktails in which you could comfortably house a family of (drunk) goldfish.

Buckley's Pub
You may need to do a little bit of searching to find Buckley’s down one of the side streets in a particularly un-touristy part of town.

Molly Malone's Pub Malta
Speaking of searching…  Molly Malone’s is virtually invisible from the street, except for the smokers who congregate near the entrance.  It’s on Ramel street – keep your eyes open.  Busy spot though, as it’s part of a holiday apartment complex.  BUT… they do not serve Guinness – not even in cans – and so are thus officially Disqualified from calling themselves an Irish bar, and should take down their shamrocks.

Murphy's Pub Bugibba

Murphy’s is a good old Irish bar, lots of live bands and suitably dimly-lit inside.  And all the Guinness you can drink, though not one for the foodies, it’s a toastie or nothing kind of place.  Like I said, a real Irish bar.

Not every Irish bar can be a roaring success though.  It seems like it is possible to have too many Irish pubs in one town.  Who would have thought it?

So last orders have been called for McCormack’s, Frankies and O’Connors, and you will need to look elsewhere for your pint of that black stuff this Paddy’s Day.
